About
Benjamin Schmidt is an award-winning director, cinematographer, and writer.
While growing up in Bellevue, Iowa, he fell in love with cinema and that has driven him creatively ever since. After years of cutting his teeth through amateur films with friends, Benjamin released ‘Is It Snowing Where You Are’ in 2017, a film inspired by his experiences after dropping out of college.
Two years later he followed with ‘Nocturnal’ (Horror, Short) and ‘The Last Sleepover’ (Drama, Short).
Most recently, Benjamin has worked as Director of Photography on music videos of increasing production scale and quality with frequent collaborators in Color Me In Media.
He’s also worked with fellow Iowa-based Director of Photography Bruce James Bales (DEFT) on multiple projects and with Director Richard Miron (2019 Critics’ Choice Documentary Nominee).
On every project, Ben seeks to push the envelope and expand the skills of the teams he works with to create poignant, genuine stories.
